On Saturday, October 24th, the NJSFWC of GFWC will hold a Day of Service Project. Partnering with The Heart of America Foundation, all three groups of the NJSFWC, Women?s Clubs, Junior Membership/Juniorettes and Evening Membership Departments are coming together to collect hard cover and paperback books for 8 under resourced school districts in New Jersey which have been identified by the Heart of America Foundation. This Foundation is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to help people, particularly children, learn that they help themselves when they help others. Their goal is to gather new books that are not being used and to get these books into the hands of needy elementary school children and onto the empty shelves of school libraries and classrooms located in areas of poverty.
Joyce Fredericks has been named the chairman of the Project and has been recruiting District Chairmen. To date she is still actively seeking District Chairmen for this project in Ramapo and Garden Districts. Check out the day of service page to see how you can get involved! In addition to book donations, the Federation will be accepting monetary donations to be used to purchase additional books where needed and for the printing of the bookplates.

SAVING THE PALISADES – 2009 A CALL FOR HELP
The reputation of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs for “saving the Palisades” led to a call for help recently from the Coalition to Preserve the Palisade Cliffs. We are requesting YOUR help by writing letters to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection asking them to apply their existing “steep slopes” restrictions to the North Bergen application. We are also asking your help in circulating petitions to be submitted to NJDEP.Since May is National Preservation Month, the effort couldn’t be more timely!
The Great Falls in Paterson, has now been designated as a National Historic Park by law. President Obama signed the legislation, authored by NJ's Senators Lautenberg and Menendez and Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr.
