I am Helen Stayna and I am excited to be the International Outreach Chair. There are so many great projects and ways to help people around the world. I am a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Somerset Hills for the lastsix years, where I had the opportunity to be club president. Two years ago I joined the Jersey Juniors Board as the Highlands District Advisor. Serving on the board has been a great experience and I am thrilled to be doing it again in this new capacity. Iwelcome your suggestions for new projects and please let me know how your club’s international projects are going. Together we can help so many others.
A great holiday gift would be to purchase a solar cooker for a refugee woman, $30 provides 2 Solar Cooker Kits per family. Women and girls who have fled the genocide of Darfur, Sudan are particularly vulnerable from rape and other forms of violence while performing the critical task of collecting firewood for cooking. For easy and social International Affairs projects, consider having an International Dinner every other month - go out to a different ethnic restaurant to expand your pallet and cultural knowledge! Also, if your club holds playgroups have the hostess make foods from her ethnic background. For the kids - go to http://www.gameskidsplay.net/ and look in the international section for common children's games from foreign countries!
