The loveisrespect.org National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline is a 24 hour resource for teens and young adults experiencing dating abuse. It is specifically designed with teens and young adults in mind, operating around the growing technologies that they use most often: the phone, the web, and chat. Young men and women, along with their friends and families, can anonymously contact a trained teen dating abuse advocate by phone 24/7 at (866) 3331-9474 or TTY (866) 331-8453. They can also chat in a one-on-one, confidential conversation with a peer advocate between the hours of 4 pm and midnight. All advocates on the loveisrespect.org National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline are trained to offer crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals from a database of over 4,500 resource providers. One of our goals is to haveall the juniorettes attach the logo on their MY SPACEprofileto showthey support groups that work against domestic violence and teen dating violence. The GFWC encourages the clubs to start promoting this project now.
Who doesn't like to curl up on a cold winter's night with their own special warm blanket? Many people do not have this luxury such as the homeless families who sleep in shelters, or kids who enter foster care. Your Juniorette club can help them derive some comfort from sleeping in a strange bed in a strange place with the gift of a Blanket Hug!
Materials Needed: Fleece blankets, or Fleece material to make blankets Scissors Construction paper, tape Steps Involved Contact a shelter or agency that you think could use Blanket Hugs. 1.Decide if you will purchase the blankets or material. Fleece blankets can be found in stores starting at $5.O0. 2.If your club makes the blankets, cut fringe (3 inches) at the ends of the fleece for a decorative touch. 3.To make the "hugs" trace your hands on construction paper and attach to "arms" or a strip of paper that will wrap around the rolled blanket. Include a caring message on the strip around the blanket or make a caring card. 4.Deliver your Blanket Hugs.
