WOMEN'S HEART HEALTH Director’s Special Project
You take care of everyone else, now take care of yourself! The 2006-08 Director’s Special Project is Women’s Heart Health. Heart disease is the number one killer of American women, far outpacing all forms of cancer combined. In fact, women are thirty times more likely to die from heart disease than form breast cancer. Since 1984, the number of cardiovascular disease deaths for women has exceeded those for men. This administration, with the help of the American Heart Association and the Women’s Heart Foundation, will empower women with the knowledge and resources they need to keep their hearts healthy. To promote this project, the “official color” of this administration is RED.
The number of women who die from heart disease has shifted from 1 in 3 women to 1 in 4, a decrease equaling nearly 17,000 deaths. Additionally, significant progress has been made in increasing awareness among women that heart disease is their leading killer, up from 34 percent in 2000 to 55 percent in 2005. This Director’s Special Project is about bringing awareness to women about heart disease. It is about the actions-large and small-that women like you take to protect their own hearts and support the movement to stop heart disease. Please join members of the Women’s Club, EMD and Junior Membership as we walk to raise awareness of heart disease throughout the state.(see link below)
